Meet The Team

RICHARD ENGLER // PARTNER

Richard has more than 20 years’ bands and brands experience. He instigated his first record campaign (and first no. 1) whilst brand manager at Coca-Cola. From there he moved into the record industry to a marketing post at Sony, working with catalogue and front-line releases from the Clash to The Rolling Stones. He was then head-hunted by EastWest / Atlantic to run the marketing department, where he looked after key UK artists including Simply Red and Paul Oakenfold, and the entire US roster – from AC/DC to Snoop Dogg. From there he moved to EMI/Chrysalis as Marketing Director overseeing the launch of Robbie Williams’ solo career, and then 5 years as Head of Marketing at V2. The V2 years saw gold and platinum album campaigns for Stereophonics, Underworld, Paul Weller, Liberty X, and Elbow, plus an insight into the workings of the Branson empire. Richard moved on to lead the music marketing team at media giant Emap before setting up his own marketing company anothermusic in 2006 and then joining with David to form Autonomy in 2007. Richard was also a founding DJ and investor for London’s pioneering alternative radio station XFM. He is also a visiting lecturer in Music Business Studies for Newcastle College, The University of East London, and London Metropolitan University.

DAVID ROWELL // PARTNER

David’s marketing background spans 20 years. David began his career as an intern at James Grant Management in 1993. Later that year David made the move to Chrysalis as Product and Label Manager on the Curb / Hit Label, working on frontline and back catalogue. 1995 saw an internal change to the newly established, Chrysalis-owned Echo Label where David rose to the position of Marketing Director and looked after the careers of Feeder, Moloko, Ray Lamontagne, Nerina Pallot and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club amongst others.David and Richard first worked together on the hugely successful compilation series ACOUSTIC while still being respective Marketing Directors at Echo and V2. Vicious Music was set up in 2006, which expanded upon the operation and experience generated via their solo marketing ventures. 2008 saw the expansion of the team and company when Autonomy Music Group was formed with the addition of a recorded, management and publishing and sync division. In 2010 alongside Richard, David became a co-owner of the Communion Music Group.

JACK WIDDISON // PRODUCT MANAGER

Jack is one of the product managers at Autonomy Music Group who works on a whole host of projects to bring them to life and maximise their output. Alongside this he is an active artist manager within the industry, as well as providing branding and digital consultancy services to the entertainment industry through his own setup at JX AGENCY. During his time studying for a Music Business & Innovation degree at the Academy of Contemporary Music, he worked at Metropolis Studio’s in London in the label services department, which gave him invaluable practical experience within large-scale and high impact music projects.

JAMES CORBITT // PRODUCT MANAGER

James began managing bands alongside his studies at The Academy of Contemporary Music where he achieved a first-class honours degree in Music Business & Innovation. Whilst at university, James’s management and artist development lead him to win a “young management’ award at a Metropolis/ACM showcase. James is also responsible for the Live Sessions channel, operating from his university house, “In a House Sessions”. As well as working at Autonomy, James continues to run Catchy Monkey Music.

MIKEY EATON // DIGITAL CREATIVE

Mikey is a hugely talented Creative Director, Video Editor & Social Media Coordinator. His work has extended across many creative disciplines from web design to full campaign asset creation. Mikey heads the creative team at Autonomy Digital in Toronto, Canada and has worked with the likes of Feeder, Prophets Of Rage, Goldfrapp, Scrobious Pip, Marilyn Manson, The Orb, The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Blue Nile & Microsoft Halo. Mikey is also a partner and co-founder of sucessful online music channel, The Crypt Sessions.

DARRIN WOODFORD // CAMPAIGN CONSULTANT

Darrin’s career in music began in his teens, playing in an indie band called The Cherryblades. Their claim to fame was recording one of John Peel’s legendary sessions at the BBC Maida Vale studios. Later joined The Echo Label in Artist and Repertoire as one of the founding members. Learning at close hands from some of the great UK industry moguls such as Steve Lewis (Virgin/Chrysalis/Stage Three) and Chris Wright (Chrysalis/Heart Radio).

His most notable successes included signing Feeder, Moloko, Ray Lamontagne, I Am Kloot, Roisin Murphy, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Morcheeba, Babybird, Utah Saints and the Acoustic compilation series. Achieving a number of platinum, gold and silver albums and top 5 hit singles.

Venturing into the world of management working with some exciting new artists including Jay Jay Pistolet (who later went on to form The Vaccines) and Feeder. Also he Darrin spent time as MD of Distiller Records/Publishing & Studios – successes at Distiller include signing Funeral For A Friend, The Blackout and two writers from La Roux’s album. Most recently has been working with Grant Nicholas and Feeder in a management and label capacity and lecturing A&R and Artist development at ACM.

DAN SIMPKINS // CAMPAIGN CONSULTANT

Dan is a musician with over 10 years experience in the music industry as an artist and songwriter. After completing a degree in Music Technology at Brunel University in 2005 he joined EMI Music in their digital department. This gave him the platform to showcase his band ‘The Days’ to the industry and in 2006 was signed to Atlantic Records and shortly after Warner Chappell. The Days toured consistently for 4 years with the likes of Paolo Nutini,The Fray, Scouting For Girls and Supergrass. Learning from top producers and songwriters alike. When ‘The Days’ split Dan was signed to Prestige Management (The Vamps, McFly) as an artist/songwriter and continued to develop his ear for a great song. In 2014 Dan joined Autonomy with his band ‘The Levity’, working with some of the industry’s top songwriters, along with other bands and artist under the Autonomy umbrella he was able to realise his passion for artist development and A&R.
